2 natural dog beauty products you can make

Home/Dog Health & Dog Beauty, SD Mag/2 natural dog beauty products you can make

If the thought of creating your own, natural dog beauty products seems too elusive, then think again. In fact, making your own beauty products for dogs from natural ingredients may be a lot easier than you think.

Auroma, one of Australia’s leading suppliers of essential oils and natural products, explains why many of their clients seek advice on creating their own natural dog beauty products for their favourite friends. “Many of Auroma’s clients are concerned with the unknown chemicals and additives they find in their foods and beauty products,” says a company spokesperson, “and the effect they have on themselves and their families. These concerns, of course, extends to the furry family members as well”.

Furthermore, this spokesperson explains why essential oils are so popular with most of their clients. “Essential oils have been been around for centuries and are trusted by millions. They have been proven to lift the mood and highlight the senses. A simple smell can invigorate the mind and body”.

Inspired? Well, I hope you are too. Here are two natural dog beauty products (Doggy Shampoo and Calming mist) you can definitely try at home.

* Note – obviously before making any beauty products yourself, a little common sense must prevail. Auroma’s recommendations before trying these products can be found at the bottom of this article.

Doggy shampoo

350 ml water
2 drops lavender essential oil
1 tbsp Castile soap
2 drops peppermint essential oil
2 drops eucalyptus essential oil
2 drops rosemary essential oil

Mix all ingredients together in a jar before pouring into a bottle.
Shake the bottle each time you use the shampoo.
Lather well on your dog when bathing and rinse well.

Calming mist

300 ml water
5-10 drops lavender essential oil
5-10 drops Roman chamomile essential oil
Spray bottle

Mix all the ingredients together in the bottle and shake the bottle well before spraying.
Spray a light mist over your dog during times when they need help settling.

Hint: A good time to spray would be about 10 minutes before leaving home or before guests arrive.
