Dexter is back! That’s right – our dogoscoper to the stars is back by popular demand. Ever since his sister, Daphne, made the cover for the second time, some of our readers have been emailing in and asking when Dexter also gets a second cover. So for those of you who’ve asked, your wish is our command.
Along with October 2018 cover boy Max, we wanted certain Superdogel Australia covers to be shot around some of Melbourne’s most iconic dog-friendly pubs and bars. Originally, we had a different dog booked for this Republica shoot. But when the dog’s owner had to cancel at the last minute, Dexter rose to the challenge. And what evolved from a last minute cancellation happened to turn into one of our favourite covers ever.
It’s his adaptability that makes Dexter so easy to work with, especially when there is food involved. Completely edible item orientated, Dexter’s favourite foods are – well pretty much anything. So, once he realised treats were put into the dog-walking backpack, he was out that door to model the house (in this case bar) down.
And even though he happens to be my dog, more than a few people stop to comment on how handsome they think he is. Especially the girls. But does he relish in the compliments? Absolutely. Especially when those girls give him treats.
Dexter and Republica
Which is why I’m happy to say my that Dexter fitted in the Republica shoot so beautifully. A gorgeous bar set by the St. Kilda sun and sand, Republica is a perfect spot for grabbing a drink and people / dog watching.
But his shoot was one that made me reflect on something more personal. Once a terrified, broken mess of a dog, it’s taken my partner and I almost five years to let Dexter know that not all humans are bad. Seeing him happy in this gorgeous setting just makes me love him even more.
But for now, I feel like grabbing myself a cocktail.
